How risky is it not to have grilles?
Very risky indeed. There is nothing to prevent a stone, thrown up by the car in front, from flying straight into the air-conditioning radiator or one of the two oil coolers, and costing many hundreds of pounds. Even smaller stones and road debris, even if not large enough to puncture the radiator, can bend or clog its delicate fins and restrict its cooling efficiency.
